Wrinkles reduction with aesthetic technology, Botox
Not many will deny that mostly everyone wants to be good looking. Our jaw line and neck are composed of a muscle called Platysma which causes flaccid skin, particularly in aging individuals whose collagen and elastin are insufficient, leading to change in facial structure and loss of v–shape face.
However, it is not possible for us not to smile, laugh, frown or express emotions, despite the fact that these activities cause wrinkles around the eyes, between eyebrows and forehead. Fortunately, there are many ways to reduce these wrinkles, including injection of Botulinum which is one of many ways to help remove undesirable wrinkles and folds.
Botulinum, or widely known as Botox, is a medical substance produced from purified protein derived from bacteria. It can reduce muscle contractions and thus help reduce wrinkles and smoothen skin. After Botox injection, the substance will bind to neurons and relax the muscles connected to the neurons. Patients will not be able to contract the muscle and thus, undesirable wrinkles start to fade. Moreover, botox has anti-wrinkle properties, helps reduce sweat and body odour by 80%, as well as reduces jaw muscle tension which makes the face appear smaller and releases calf muscle tension making the calf appear slender for a more youthful rejuvenated overall appearance. Just 10 minutes after treatment, muscles will feel relax and folds will gradually be alleviated. As time goes by, muscles will become smaller and skin will appear firmer and smoother. The effect lasts for over 4 months.
Botulinum Injection Procedure
An experienced dermatologist will help determine efficiency and safety of the treatment for individuals. A small amount of Botulinum will be selectively injected into targeted muscle areas using a particularly small needle. Botox treatment does not require anesthetic. However in some cases, the doctor might use an ice pack around the targeted areas. The actual treatment takes about 10 minutes, during which patients will feel a mild stinging sensation. After the treatment, patients can continue their working routine and daily life. When treated properly, Botox treatment will make skin appear natural with only subtle change. Patients will be able to express emotions naturally as Botox only affects the treated area. For example, if Botox was injected to the middle part of the forehead, the side muscles would be able to function as normal. The result is, patients would still be able to lift their eyebrows and express emotions naturally. Apart from smoothening and firming the skin, Botox also helps reduce activities in some muscle areas and makes the face appear smaller.
Effects of Botulinum usually show within 2-3 days. Significant results are visible within 1 week and last between 4-6 months, depending on skin conditions of the individual. It is recommended to repeat the treatment 2-3 times annually for a long lasting result. From research study, it is evidenced that the result lasts longer each time after continuity of treatment. This implies that the patient will require less and less amount of substance as the treatment continues.
Will wrinkles start to appear after stopping the treatment?
Between 6-12 months after Botox dissolves, skin will return to the state before the treatment and wrinkles will not increase.
Side-Effects of Botox
Botox was the first medicine registered particularly for wrinkle treatment. For over 17 years it has been used widely in aesthetic improvement. Many research studies from the American Society of Plastic Surgery confirm the safety and effectiveness of Botox. Originally aimed at treating eye conditions and neurotic disorders, since 2001, Botox has been considered the most favored method of aesthetic treatment for its effectiveness and safety in removing wrinkles. In present day, there are many products which claim to be Botox but are not. Therefore, clients should ensure that the Botox trademark is present on the offered product as Botox is the only brand approved by U.S. FDA for safety and efficiency. The side-effects of Botox have not been reported, however in some cases, patients might temporarily experience bruising, swollen skin or headache. Botox for brow line lifting might cause heavy eyelids during the first 1-4 weeks, after which the symptom will disappear.
Where can botox be injected?
Botox can be injected into the areas with wrinkles from facial expressions such as forehead and eyes to remove crow’s feet. Botox can also be injected into eyebrows for the appearance of bigger eyes and younger look. Moreover, the doctor can combine Botox with collagen or laser treatment to achieve a better result in treating wrinkles on cheeks, lips, neck or chin. The more favored areas to inject Botox is around the jaw line and cheek for face slimming.
Filling Agent to Treat Sunken Cheeks
Wrinkles between eyebrows, scars from trauma or deep folds around cheek areas… if these are one of your concerns, maybe it is a good idea to consider treatment using a Filling Agent.
What is Filling Agent?
Filling Agent is a substance used in removing folds and wrinkles by filling in to the concerned areas. “Hyaluronic Acid” or HA is one of the filling agents that is believed by doctors to be a more safe and effective choice. Another widely used filling agent is collagen.
Hyaluronic Acid is a widely used filling agent. As it is a substance naturally present in the human body, there is a low chance that it will cause allergic reaction or irritation. HA generally remains in the body for 6-8 months, after which it will naturally dissolve.
Collagen is another well-accepted filling agent. Extracted from cattle, the difference between collagen and HA is that, the former requires allergic and side-effect tests to be done prior to the treatment. This is to prevent the possibility of swollen skin and inflammation. Collagen can last for about 6-8 months in the human body before naturally dissolve.
As wonderful as it seems, patients should be aware that although these perpetual inventions of aesthetic technology help us to maintain our eternal youth, it is merely one of many factors. Attractive and youthful skin still requires a lot of self-care such as consuming foods packed with nutrition, ensuring sufficient sleep, avoiding strong sunlight, always putting on sun cream, always rehydrating your skin, exercising routinely, avoiding alcohol and quitting smoking. These are crucial factors for an everlasting, attractive and youthful complexion.
